Set on the rolling western edge of Hunterdon County, just above the Delaware River in Milford, New Jersey, Oak Hill Golf Club is a beloved, member-owned hidden gem with one of the great backstories in American club golf. Originally born from a group of dedicated employees of the Riegel Paper Corporation in the early 1960s - the founding members were so committed they organized "rock-picking parties" to clear the land themselves - the 18-hole, par-72 layout was designed by William F. Gordon of the prominent eastern golf architecture firm Wm. F. Gordon Company and officially opened in 1967. The course threads through mature oak, walnut, and cherry groves with classic mid-century strategic character: tree-framed tee shots, elevated and crowned greens with false fronts, well-placed bunkering, and a creek that comes into play across several holes. The picturesque par-3 fifth plays downhill over a stream and pond, while the 225-yard 15th - Oak Hill's signature hole - is widely considered one of the toughest par 3s in New Jersey, demanding a long uphill carry through a tree-framed opening to a treacherously sloped green. The finishing stretch rewards the climb to the top of the property with sweeping views of the Delaware River and the rolling countryside beyond.
