Set on the rolling high plains of Westminster, just north of Denver with the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains as a constant horizon, The Ranch Country Club is one of the metro area's most established and member-loved private clubs. The 18-hole, par-71, 6,672-yard layout was crafted in 1974 by acclaimed Colorado-based golf architect Richard "Dick" Phelps, ASGCA - the same designer behind The Golf Club at Devils Tower and dozens of other Rocky Mountain region standouts - and was thoughtfully updated by Phelps' longtime design associate Kevin Atkinson in 2000. The course threads through naturally rolling, parkland terrain, with mature tree-lined fairways, small and well-defended greens, and a series of lakes and creeks that come into play on a handful of holes. The setting, the conditioning, and the relaxed Western Slope-style hospitality at the clubhouse - full dining, banquet facilities, and a swimming and tennis complex on a hilltop perch - make for a quintessentially Colorado private-club afternoon. Bring all four players if you can; the host has offered to make space.
