Nice Wheels
$625Lisa Myers Bulmash
Nice Wheels
collage on board
20 x 16 x 1.5 inches
Unframed
This collage was inspired by 1960s slang found in vintage Ebony magazines. The piece centers on a woman with long legs who appears to have fallen while roller-skating. She looks upward at a Greyhound bus ad showing a man and woman, also skating; the ad text reads "It's summer! Let us be your wheels!" Maps of 19th and 20th century American and British colonies appear in the background of the collage.
"Lisa Myers Bulmash makes collage and altered books, using vintage images to explore contemporary questions. Her work is part of Seattle and Shoreline's art collections."

"I wanted to create a piece that was blue and was in the shape of a square. So one night, I went to sleeping thinking about it and focusing on a blue square. I dreamt about a god with a ball of life-potential pulsating in her hands. She looked over it in deep thought, debating on whether or not to create life." The piece was professionally framed by Seattle Custom Framing in Belltown, Seattle. It is in a white 16" x 20" frame with a weighted mat and UV protected museum glass.
"I consider my "circlism" work is a fine craft conceived through obsessive repetition and meditation. My doodles are brain vomit, "an uncontrollable reaction to the world." - ST Rivera

Sovereign
$1500Dave C. Clay
Sovereign
oil on wood panel
38 x 60 x 3 inches
Unframed
Sovereign was started and finished in 3 days for the CoCA marathon and auction. Sovereign is a human figure standing vulnerable against an abstract environment reflecting light from himself. He looks outwards, holding himself inwards. While his gesture and nudity commonly describe a vulnerability, I prescribe a strength in bare humanity, in its ability to connect emotionally with each other. His look outward may be a search for connection, it may be a warning, a threat. Our relationship with him is a reflection of our own relationships.
"Dave Clay's work portrays the human figure, reaching for empathy and relying on the emotional connections within the viewer's own experiences." - Dave C. Clay

"In 1998, I built a room-sized installation for Pedro Alexander's show Encounters with Place. This room was a zig-zag maze that took the viewer past a series of ever-smaller aligned viewports that altered one's sense of distance and scale. These paintings were added to the second month of the exhibition based on my observations of people interacting with the original piece."

The history of humanity is the history of a tumble, a stumble, a crumble. As suggested by the victims of Vesuvius in 79 AD, the collective we have continued towards some inscrutable and likely non-culmination.
"Humanity tumbles, maybe downward, maybe upward, through its own confusion and ignorance, yet evolving, devolving, learning, ignoring, through love, through hate, indifference, yet searching." - Nick Riesland

orbital debris
$175ST Rivera
orbital debris
india ink on 400 series bristol smooth paper
12 x 9 inches
Unframed
"This piece started during one of the live drawing sessions with artist, Kyle Krauskopf. He chose the theme "Space." I knew that the SpaceX + NASA launch was going to be happening soon and my mind went to the impacts of space exploration. A couple of years ago, I listened to a podcast about orbital debris, also known as space junk.
Did you know that there are millions of pieces of space junk flying around Earth? They are pieces left over from collisions, parts of rockets and satellites, basically remnants leftover from 50+ years of space travel. There are no international laws about who is responsible to clean it up, however, every country that has traveled to space should share the responsibility of doing so. If humans do end up living on the red planet, will they be more mindful about how they treat their new home? Or is it another colonial conquest driven by greed, pride, and ego? A future of the haves living on Mars and the have nots left behind on Earth, surrounded and filled with debris."
"I consider my "circlism" work a fine craft conceived through obsessive repetition and meditation. My doodles are brain "vomit," an uncontrollable reaction to the world." - ST Rivera

collage on paper

"Collage on paper from found materials (magazines). A man's head is replaced by a large hand which reminded me of the old saying on the Red Green Show, which I borrowed for the title."
"BRING DEAD PAPER TO LIFE. Collage is like recycling. Iâ??m using the pages of discarded books and magazines to tell a new story. I appreciate the aesthetics of vintage advertising and style and rework it into surreal landscapes or compound, didactic themes." - Mikhail Siskoff
