Welcome to the Frank Hereford's Select Open Heifer Sale!

We are offering a dozen heifers from the top of the calf crop. These are heifers that will one day become donors and front-pasture cows. They haven't been pushed or polished. They were raised on native grass that was extra lush this year and developed on a 13% grower pellet. They will fit into any program and will excel in any environment. These heifers are in their working clothes and are ready for any environment or function. Whether you want to take home a diamond in the rough show heifer, a genetic outcross that will raise a herd bull or become a donor or take home a select group of replacement heifers to raise purebreds of black baldies, we have assembled them for your scrutiny and consideration.

2022 and 2023 were record-setting years in Montana, particularly in the Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Rosebud drainages. 2022 brought catastrophic 500-year floods, which washed away our corrals and working facilities, eroded the barn's foundations, washed tons of earth downstream, and floated a neighbor's home downstream and deposited it in our calving pasture. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our fall on-line female sale and we were unable to offer any heifers in 2022.

The winter of 2022-23 dumped record snowfalls. On April 1, the snow was still nearly four feet deep at the ranch. But the cows weathered the storm and raised their calves. 2023 brought record rainfall, making haying challenging, to say the least.

On the bright side, the record precipitation yielded a bountiful crop of grass, and the cattle grew quickly and bloomed with vigor and vitality.

With all that being said, the cattle business is bright!!! 2023 presents a unique opportunity to salvage some cows that are past their prime and replace them with younger, higher performing females, with more future, longevity, and fresher genetics.

In most cases, the dams and granddams of these heifers are still in production in our herd. We stress longevity, functionality, soundness, coupled with performance and the kind of cow that you enjoy looking at on each trip across the range.

A credit/debit card will be required ONLY to verify identity of bidders, but you will not be charged for your purchases on your card UNLESS you choose that option or you have not paid for your purchases prior to 12 days after the auction closes. Your credit card will be charged if payment has not been received within 12 days after purchase or arrangements have not been communicated. If your credit card payment is declined at the 12 days your purchase will accrue an interest of 6%. If you pay with a card you will be charged a 5% transaction fee.
