This painting is part of my recent series, Aural Vision - in which each piece is an abstract
interpretation of music. Like the other paintings in the series, this one is composed of vertical stripes, rendered with acrylic paint, on multiple wood panels (nine in this case).
The colors, along with the varied width and arrangement of the stripes, correspond roughly to the rhythms, harmonies, and timbres of the song-an ostensible R&B knockoff that sounds deceptively high gloss, with its lush vocal harmonies and meticulous arrangement. But it's a cagey tune in many ways: tuneful and bright, yet densely layered; bursting with eclectic influences and surprising musical choices, throughout the song and on multiple levelsââ'¬Â¦the song's boundless capacity to subvert expectations-especially when it comes to transitions and the mix, in which key elements retreat and engage in consistently unexpected ways-is a main force that catapults this clever ditty into the realm of art.
There is no obvious match between any elements of the painting and the music; it is not a symbolic work, but rather an improvisation, intended to convey the essence of the song.

Multidisciplinary abstract artist Chris Chubb, focuses on re-interpretations of things found in
science, nature, and art. He draws inspiration from the majesty of nature, light, geometric
forms, color, and the divinity underlying it all. Using acrylics, he explores how these elements
may mingle, uncluttered, on the smooth wood panel canvas providing the viewer with an
opportunity for contemplation.
Drawn to create from an early age, Chris Chubb is a self-taught painter and designer. His artistic
spark was first ignited with drawing and painting. Receiving encouragement, he furthered his
studies at the University of Southern California and Georgia Tech where he received his
Bachelor of Architecture. As a professional architect for more than 20 years, his training and
work touched each of the STEAM disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math
providing an incredibly unique foundation for his art works. For Chris, each piece is a
construction of elements intended to transport the viewer beyond the material plane, towards
tranquility and contemplation.
In February 2023, Chris marked his first solo exhibition, titled Horizons, in downtown
Tallahassee. In August of 2023, the Horizons exhibit travelled to WALLSPACE gallery |
Thomasville Center for the Arts in Thomasville, Georgia for his second solo exhibit. He also
recently joined an esteemed group of juried international artists when his Quantum Reef
sculpture was chosen to join the nation's first Underwater Museum of Art (UMA). In the
summer of 2023, Quantum Reef was deployed into the Gulf of Mexico 58 feet below the
surface to join the UMA sculpture garden forming an artificial reef system off the coast of
Grayton Beach State Park providing much-needed habitat for marine life.
