S.A., a 54-year-old female patient at Good Samaritan since 2021 is being treated for hypothyroidism and high cholesterol. Ten years ago she had a nodule on her lung, but could not afford to have it treated.
This past May, she went to an emergency room complaining of neck pain. A CT scan found a "shadow" in the upper chest which was believed to be malignant. We referred her to Moffitt Cancer Center for further workup and treatment, which was delayed because of a right arm fracture she sustained shortly thereafter.
After her discharge from the hospital, she was seen at Moffitt where she was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with significant metastasis to various parts of her body. Moffitt placed her on palliative care and started her cancer treatment. This September, after two months of treatment the patient had an MRI of the brain. Two of the metastatic areas were still visible but were much smaller than originally measured. The remaining areas seen previously were no longer detected and there were no new metastases noted.
S.A. continues to be a patient at Good Sam and has expressed her gratitude for the combined efforts of all the organizations that have saved her life. All services at Good Sam are provided at no cost to our patients - because of people like you who care for our community's health.

This holiday season, our goal is to help mothers, fathers, sons and daughters win their battles as they conquer chronic health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, COPD, diabetes, anxiety and depression and find a way to get their health back on track. We understand the significant impact that inflation has had on all of us this year, but it has been especially brutal for those who were already struggling financially. Simply put, our patients can't wait to get better until the economy gets better! That's why your support this holiday season is more critical than ever.
