Ms. Angelica Salas - Crystal Ball Honoree 2024

We proudly introduce this year's honoree, La Salle Board of Regents member Ms. Angelica Salas.  Ms. Salas is a committed and dedicated supporter of La Salle College Preparatory, serves as the Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, and is a member of the California Wellness Foundation's Board of Directors.  Ms. Salas is married to Mayron Payes, an immigrant from El Salvador, and a proud parent to Maya Payes, La Salle College Preparatory Class of 2022.  As a five-year-old, Ms. Salas came to the U.S. from Mexico to rejoin her parents, who had come to the U.S. to find work and better provide for their family.  She has lived the immigrant experience first-hand and has developed into a strong community leader for human rights.  Ms. Salas and CHIRLA have led several ambitious campaigns locally, statewide, and nationally to support their quest for human rights and a better life for their families.

Her leadership through CHIRLA has helped immigrants obtain the necessary licenses and certifications to work and improve their families' quality of life while benefiting the state of California.  She has worked supporting educational immigrant youth programs, such as in-state tuition and the California Dream Act.

Moreover, she has lobbied for access to healthcare for all, irrespective of immigration status.  Her compassion and solidarity for people experiencing poverty have helped immigrant students attend school for a bright future.  She has helped establish day laborer job centers and lobbied for humane Immigration Reform in America.  She is a leading spokesperson on federal immigration policy and a model leader of compassion and respect for the dignity of all individuals.  She leads with compassion and honor and reflects La Salle College Preparatory's Five Core Principles in her words and actions.
