GUEST SPEAKER

Dr. Temple Grandin, a prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior, draws upon a long, distinguished career as an animal scientist and her own experiences with autism to deliver an extraordinary message about how animals act, think, and feel

Drawing on the latest research and her own work, Grandin will identify the core emotional needs of animals and explain how to fulfill them. Whether it's how to make the healthiest environment for the dog you must leave alone most of the day, how to keep pigs from being bored, or how to know if the lion pacing in the zoo is miserable or just exercising, Dr. Grandin will teach how to challenge our assumptions about animal contentment and honor our bond with our fellow creatures.

Dr. Grandin is a professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University and has a successful career consulting on livestock handling equipment design and animal welfare. Today, half the cattle in the United States are handled in facilities she has designed. She has been featured on NPR (National Public Radio) and the BBC Special, "The Woman Who Thinks Like a Cow".

Dr. Grandin has appeared on National TV shows such as Larry King Live, 20/20, 60 Minutes, Fox & Friends, and has her own Ted Talk. HBO made an Emmy-award winning movie, "Temple Grandin", about her life and articles about Dr. Grandin have appeared in Time Magazine, the New York Times, Discover, Forbes and USA Today. She was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016. She is the author of 15 books including ANIMALS MAKE US HUMAN and ANIMALS IN TRANSLATION.
