THE STORY
On April 8, 2020, Sydney and Andy were on their morning run when Sydney collapsed. She was in cardiac arrest. Andy immediately jumped into action and performed CPR for 15 minutes until paramedics arrived. Sydney spent the next 48 hours in a medically induced coma as her doctors ran a battery of tests to determine why a healthy 27-year-old would go into cardiac arrest.
Doctors determined that Sydney had an undiagnosed congenital heart defect (CHD) that caused her heart to stop. A few days later, Sydney had open heart surgery to repair the holes in her heart and a defibrillator was placed to ensure her heart never arrested again. Next came the challenging road to recovery, always with Andy by her side.
