          SIM Foundation Beneficiaries

The SIM Foundation Board is pleased to support FIRST Robotics and NPower as beneficiaries of this year's auction. The SIM Foundation has established formal alliances with FIRST  and NPower to support their programs across the country. It is our intent to engage SIM members across the nation as Mentors, Coaches, Volunteers, Fundraisers or other roles in FIRST and NPower programs for the combined benefit of all organizations.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

This year, SIM is raising funds to support FIRST's Alumni and Scholarship Program, exposing FIRST participants to post-high school education options and providing scholarships to four year universities, community colleges, technical schools and apprenticeships. FIRST has launched a new Alumni website and is offering many new resources. Support of FIRST enables exposure and creation of community and resources for FIRST participants to explore all of the post-high-school pathways available to them: education, enlistment, and employment. One resource which enables this work is the FIRST alumni handbook. Learn more here.

NPower is a national nonprofit, rooted in community, that is committed to advancing race and gender equity in the tech industry. Through skills training, real world experience, support and mentorship, NPower graduates launch burgeoning careers and a pathway to financial freedom for themselves and their families. Students who enter their free program, earn industry-recognized certifications and graduate with the competencies of an IT professional with one to two years of experience. Eighty-one percent of NPower graduates get a full-time job or continue their education.

Funds raised from the Silent Auction and Executive Retreat will go to support NPower's Tech Fundamentals program! Tech Fundamentals is a tuition-free 16-week program for military veterans and young adults that offers all the skills and coaching needed to jumpstart a career in technology. A $7,500 investment in one student can lead to an incremental $1,000,000 of income in their lifetime.

Not only is NPower changing life trajectories for individuals from vulnerable communities but they are also strengthening the overall competitiveness of U.S. businesses hamstrung by today's limited pool of IT talent.
