This is an ukiyo-e reproduction of one of Utagawa Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo". This is Hiroshige's representative work, which the Dutch painter Van Gogh also tried to copy. The tilted composition captures people passing by in the pouring rain, beautifully expressing their sense of movement. The area came to be called "Atake" because the military ship Ataka-sen was tied up here, and later dismantled and a memorial mound was built there.

Edo woodblock prints began as simple black prints colored with a brush. These subsequently evolved into tan-e, beni-e, and urushi-e, eventually resulting in a printing technique in which colors were applied directly to the wood, followed by two- and three-color prints (benizuri-e). In 1765, it became possible to print intermediate colors as well as gold and silver, opening the door to multicolor prints.
