Did you know that our community has roughly 24% of kids living at or below poverty guidelines?

Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare's mission is to serve as a link between Glen Ellyn children in need and our community. We are able to accomplish this work through our fundraisers, generous donors and amazing sponsors.

Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare is an organization where 100% of proceeds go to directly help children in our community. Some of these children are homeless and many require need-based resources support including tutoring, counseling, food, clothing and shelter.  While these school-aged students qualify for free or reduced school lunch, this program only makes a dent in the very real struggle with hunger many local children are faced with year round. Other Glen Ellyn children are in homes affected by mental illness and violence and some are becoming young parents themselves. Among this population, many are determined to chart their own course and are the first in their family working toward a college degree. With the support of our community and devoted donors, Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare has been the bridge to reaching and supporting at-risk children in the Glen Ellyn area for almost 90 years. One hundred percent of our proceeds are distributed directly to local agencies that desperately need the funding and resources to help local children and their families.

Every year Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare gives money to about 20 non-profit organizations that directly benefit kids in our community. Not only does GEIW donate money but we help in many other ways to make an impact on children's lives.

What We Do:

Community Service:
All of our members are encouraged to participate in the volunteer opportunities that our agencies have made available to us. We work shifts at the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry and the People's Resource Center. Members also help out at the Family Shelter Service Holiday Shop in December.

Fundraising:
Throughout the year the Society organizes various fundraising efforts that directly impact children in need in our community. From seasonal plant sales, to the Glen Ellyn Housewalk, benefit nights such as Dancing with the Stars, Monte Carlo, Barn Dance, to Family Fitness Walks, all proceeds go directly to these local agencies that help local children and their families.

Family Aid:
Our Family Aid component helps us give immediate, short-term assistance to families and children referred to us from local agencies. In the past, we have provided library cards, gift certificates, gasoline, and car seats, just to name a few examples.

Scholarships:
The Scholarship Committee works closely with the counseling staffs at Glenbard West and Glenbard South each spring to award full-time two year scholarships to graduating seniors. These recipients are ranked highly within their class, have solid test scores, have to desire to succeed, and could greatly benefit from the financial assistance. The committee continues throughout the duration of the scholarship to monitor students' progress and act as mentors when and if needed. We hope to support these recipients as they progress toward their academic and professional goals. Last year we were able to give 4 full-time two year scolarships.
