Meet Our Speaker | Walt Havenstein | Retired US Marine Corps Colonel

 

Guest Speaker: COL Walt HavensteinWalt Havenstein served in the Marine Corps, both active and reserve, retiring at the rank of Col. in 1999. His civilian career took him to leadership positions in the defense industry, eventually becoming Chairman/CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. and then being hired as CEO of SAIC. He also spent many years supporting FIRST, introducing kids to STEM, and was Chairman of FIRST from 2010 to 2013, promoting and expanding the FIRST Robotics Competition.

He was instrumental in lobbying for the Cyber Program at the Naval Academy. He was also a key contributor to the planning for Hopper Hall, the new Cyber Building, and helped the USNA Cyber Center achieve the Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) designation from the National Security Agency.

After retiring from SAIC, he ran for governor of New Hampshire in 2014. Walt won the Republican primary and later lost to incumbent Gov. Maggie Hassan (D).

Walt is a 1971 graduate of the Naval Academy and has a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He was selected as a distinguished graduate of the Naval Academy in 2019. He and his wife of 50 years, Judy, now live in Pinehurst, NC where he is Founder and Chairman of Six H Asset Management Corporation.
