A Benefit for the Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center
Chair - Monique Zhang Co-Chairs: Fiona Ma & Kitty Saichau
The Pomeroy Recreation & Rehabilitation Center (PRRC) is a San Francisco nonprofit that provides recreational, vocational and educational opportunities for children, teens and adults with disabilities. Our programs and services encourage self-expression, promote personal achievement, and lead to greater independence.
In 1952, Janet Pomeroy had a dream to create a recreation center for people with disabilities. At the time, there were no other programs like it. Today, the PRRC serves nearly 2,000 people every week. Our center has been acknowledged nationally and internationally for pioneering recreation programs for people with developmental disabilities and for leadership in vocational rehabilitation, education, respite care and community-based programs.
In 2015, Monique Zhang created the open-hearted project Work that Catwalk to teach musical runway to special needs participants at the Pomeroy Center. This show as since evolved into the San Francisco Bay Area's premier Asian Fashion gala as well as Pomeroy's annual charity fashion show. Monique's goal is to continue to raise awareness and support the Pomeroy Center, its participants and the greater community.
