Second Saturday Hikes

February 12, 2022 10:00 am - June 11, 2022 12:00 pm

Explore the Outdoors with Us!

Join our fun and knowledgeable educators for a hike on the trails of Fairview Farm! Perfect for families or adults that are young at heart, each hike has a seasonal focus.

Hikes take place at Fairview Farm, 2121 Larger Cross Road, Gladstone, NJ 07934 from 10:30 to 12 pm.

February 12: Tracking

Learn to read the "story" of the landscape and notice the myriad signs of animals on the trails of Fairview. You will leave with a new perspective on the dynamic world around you! Be sure to dress warm!

March 12: Amphibians - rescheduled to March 19

Fairview Farm is home to many amphibians including spring peepers, green frogs, bull frogs, two-lined salamanders and more. Spend the morning exploring our wetland areas and turning over logs to see who is waking up for spring! Wear water proof boots or sturdy shoes, the trails may be muddy.

April 9: Birds

Just in time for early spring migration, learn about those feathered friends you've seen all winter and all the migrants that are showing up for breeding season. Bring your binoculars if you have them, we will have some to borrow!

May 14: Flowers

Look for pops of color in the meadows and along the trails of Fairview; spring has sprung! Learn all about the native flora of New Jersey and the pollinators that love them.

June 11: Stream Walk

One of our favorite activities! This hike will bring us to one of the small streams at Fairview Farm as we will explore the underwater world of tiny creatures called benthic macroinvertebrates. This would be a good day to wear your rain boots or water shoes!
