Angela McHale
"How Not to Burst Your Bubble:
Hollow Sculpting in Boro"
June 11 - 12 (2-day workshop)

In this workshop students will learn to use the breath, heat, gravity, and tools to make hollow sculpture in borosilicate glass. Starting with faces and sea creatures we will discuss the importance of wall thickness while getting familiar with the tools and "rules" of sculpting hollow glass. As we progress we will cover more challenging projects such as complex forms like the human figure and sculpting hollow attachments. By the end of the workshop students will have a full understanding of how to transform an ordinary glass tube into a spectacular work of art.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Saturday and Sunday, with additional studio time Saturday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included. If you have specific colors you are interested in working with please bring them with you.

Angela McHale earned her BFA with a concentration in glass from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2017. Since then she has continually worked in glass and has taught at Snow Farm and various other private and public glass studios. Angela's work straddles the boundaries between order and chaos while grappling with concepts such as impact, loss and the lifespan of an object.  Her artwork is inspired by personal narratives, current events and the climate crisis. Recently she has been experimenting with plasma neon and the use of light as a metaphor for life. Angela completed an AAS degree in Scientific Glass Technology at Salem Community College in 2021. She is currently an Artist in Residence and flameworking instructor at the Worcester Center for Crafts.
