Barbara Schreiber
Fire Diary: Ruthie, 2019
Acrylic on paper
6 x 6 inches, 9.5 x 9.5 inches

Courtesy of Toshkova Fine Art Advsiory. Schreiber's works on paper are intended to appear light-hearted at first glance, but often have disturbing undertones. Her recent preoccupations include the wildland-urban interface, loss and regeneration, and crowds. In addition to the Hambidge Center, she has completed residencies at the McColl Center, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and Goodyear Arts; she will soon be in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Born in Baltimore, Schreiber attended ACA and received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. She currently lives in Charlotte NC. Schreiber's work is filled with animals, which sometimes serve as stand-ins for humans. In particular, she identifies with small wild ones-adorable, understood by few, and ultimately alone in a complex, fast-moving world.
