Organic Geometry (Easter Totem I), 2020
Acrylic paint and oil paint on paper
30 x 22 inches, Framed 37 x 29 inches
Courtesy of the artist.
Barringer's work is in museums, public, and private collections throughout the country. It ALL seeps in, but, particularly, the written word is important for my inspiration. Poetry, novels, paleoanthropology, cosmology, biology, and art history are all areas where I may find grist for the mill. A question which is always present for me: how does the world fit together from its many parts, and what drives our need to know and create and seek the spiritual. I am fascinated by these spiritual objects and places. Barringer earned his BA degree in English from the UNC at Chapel HIll, and graduate degree from GSU. He is represented by Alan Avery Art Company in Atlanta, Momentum Gallery (Asheville), Anne Neilson Fine Art (Charlotte), and L Ross Gallery (Memphis).

Masks before Masks, 2020
Ink wash on paper
12 x 24 inches
Courtesy of Sandler Hudson/Derek Eller Gallery
Downs is an artist residing in Atlanta. His MFA comes from the Mount Royal School of Art at the Maryland Institute; prior, Downs received a BFA from ACA. He was chosen by Artadia as their 2018 Atlanta awardee as well as The Working Artist Project 2019/2020. Downs showed work in the 'Art AIDS America' exhibition. His practice, mediums vary from drawing, painting, muraling and printmaking to experimenting with installation and three-dimensional studies. The line is his current notable element which he considers paradoxically fundamental and surreal based on its infinite capabilities. His work expresses truth in common forms turned ambiguous. His use of repetition distorts what one expects to be or be true. Are his forms containers or do they find themselves contained by culture?

Stripes & Screws, 2021
Recycled Skateboards, screws, paint
32 x 9 x 2 inches
Courtesy of Signature.
Self-taught sculptor and skateboarder. My aim with this series is to celebrate the iconic nature of the skateboard as well as the creative/destructive energy that goes into forming the raw material I start with. As a person who obsesses about all the different wood species, I have come to see these broken and banged up pieces of plywood as a type of exotic material. Not because it's rare or expensive, but that it's been processed in very unique and specific ways. Creatively speaking, this series owes a lot to the culture and industry of skateboarding. Like making art, skateboarding is a very creative and personal outlet. It is also inherently destructive; boards get worn down, cracked and broken. It is a subtle and unintended type of wood sculpting.

Lonnie Holley
$7500Lonnie Holley
The Spirits Rising, 2020
Courtesy of the artist and Blum and Poe Gallery.
Lonnie Holley was born on February 10, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama. From the age of five, Holley worked various jobs: picking up trash at a drive-in movie theatre, washing dishes, and cooking. He lived in a whiskey house, on the state fairgrounds, and in several foster homes. His early life was chaotic and Holley was never afforded the pleasure of a real childhood. Since 1979, Holley has devoted his life to the practice of improvisational creativity. His art and music, born out of struggle, hardship, but perhaps more importantly, out of furious curiosity and biological necessity, has manifested itself in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance, and sound. Holley's sculptures are constructed from found materials in the oldest tradition of African American sculpture. Objects, already imbued with cultural and artistic metaphor, are combined into narrative sculptures that commemorate places, people, and events. His work is now in collections of major museums throughout the country, on permanent display in the United Nations, and been displayed in the White House Rose Garden. In January of 2014, Holley completed a one-month artist-in-residence with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva Island, Florida, site of the acclaimed artist's studio.
