4 Nights at Kubili House & 4 Nights at Babylonstoren
If you have to leave Kubili House, Babylonstoren located in the Cape Winelands, an hour's drive from Cape Town, may be your best choice. It is almost as magical. A farm dating back to 1692, now a hotel and all-around attraction, Babylonstoren is a 500-acre mini-world unto itself. There's the garden, modeled after the mythological hanging gardens of sixth-century Babylon, and attracting tourists who come for guided tours and gardening workshops. In addition to over 300 varieties of plants there are donkeys, tortoises, chickens, ducks and at least a dozen of 58 bird species here. You can cycle through vineyards and orchards to a marvelous dam on the edge of the property with 178 acres under vine, Babylonstoren produces 13 grape varieties and, in its state-of-the-art winery, eight wines.
