About the #GoldenTampon Drive

#goldentampon was founded in 2017 by Shanda Golden and is now an annual event that distributes tampons and pads to homeless women. Shanda believes that by working together and providing feminine hygiene products for our sisters in transition we can help homeless women restore their dignity.

It is estimated that the lifetime cost of a women's period will be over $18,000. The fact that menstruation is a taboo topic, to begin with, means that people, who are able to help, often aren't even aware that such a vast need exists.

The 2021 Golden Tampon drive will benefit women receiving services at Safe Embrace . Safe Embrace is committed to ending the cycle of domestic and sexual violence with innovative prevention and intervention services. If you are unable to donate tampons or pads to the drive please consider making a monetary donation.

Safe Embrace operates the largest and most inclusive safe house of its kind in the Reno-Sparks area, but they are so much more than that. Whether it's counseling, housing assistance, emergency transportation and shelter, court, or support, Safe Embrace is here to walk victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking through any step of the process of getting safe and becoming a survivor.
