About our Foundation

The O'Leary Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to the support of programs in human services, education and health care initiatives that offer significant, potential support for individual development and community enhancement.

The foundation was started by Muriel & Bob O'Leary's five children after Muriel passed away in April, 2002 and then Bob, just 15 months later in July, 2003.

Muriel's career as a Registered Nurse spanned over 36 years. She then continued her work in serving her community as a County Commissioner for the next 16 years. Bob's career as a teacher and coach lasted for 15 years. Bob then went on to become a top salesman in the mobile home industry selling furniture and carpet for the next 25 years. They weren't wealthy, but they were powerful, they had a voice! They taught us how to be strong and help people, to be part of the solution, and part of the CHANGE. The biggest lesson was how to love your neighbor, even if you didn't know them.

Every year we now hold an annual fundraiser called "A Night Out with Muriel and Bob" to continue their legacy of community service. Last year, with the events happening around the world, we had to cancel our event. This year, we are doing everything we can to have a successful year and we need your help! The venue and format may look a little different, but we can still do this virtually, as now more than ever, the AIM program needs our help!

A Message from President Kevin O'Leary and VP Mary Knecht

About the Bronson AIM - Advanced Illness Management Program

Currently, we are in a three year partnership with Bronson Healthcare Foundation's AIM Program. AIM provides care for patients facing advanced illness where they often need it most: their home. Depending on individual needs, symptoms may be managed with medicinal, spiritual and/or emotional support. Collaborating with primary care providers, nurse practitioners, social workers, chaplains, sub-specialists and hospice partners, it is AIM's goal to provide clinical, home based care and education so patients and families make informed decisions about the right care, at the right time, at the right place for them.
During the last 6-12 months of life, most patients with end-stage disease experience an increase in symptom burden which forces them to seek care in the hospital. Palliative care, known as Advanced Illness Management (AIM) at Bronson, can help patients and families better understand their prognosis and treatment options, clarifying their goals of care and assist in the planning of care as their disease progresses. Additionally, Bronson Healthcare and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan collaborate to provide home-based advanced illness management (AIM) services. The interdisciplinary home-based AIM team, in partnership with primary care providers, gives an extra layer of support to patients facing life-limiting illness. The team manages complex symptoms, helps patients understand their illness and care options and assists with advance care planning. The service area is eastern VanBuren, Kalamazoo and western Calhoun counties.

Though this approach is clearly the right thing for patients and families, much of the work is not reimbursed by insurance. Therefore, The O'Leary Foundation and Bronson AIM program have partnered in order to fund this great program.
