-THE "IMPACT" AWARD-
...bestowed annually at The Pride Gala, acknowledging "One who truly supports the mission of Immaculate Conception High School, gives selflessly of his/her time and talents, demonstrates the quality of compassion, and recognizes that every student deserves to realize his/her dreams of high school, college, and a successful future."
The Honorable Jose Linares chairs McCarter and English's Alternative Dispute Resolution practice. He served as Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, having been nominated to the bench by the President and confirmed by the Senate in 2002. Prior to joining the United States District Court, he served as a superior court judge in Essex County, New Jersey. Before joining the bench, Judge Linares headed his own law firm where he litigated products and medical cases.
An acknowledged thought leader, Judge Linares lectures nationally on litigation and patent cases. He has served as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall School of Law and led the New Jersey District Court's 2017 Sentencing Symposium and the 2018 New Jersey District Court National Opioid Symposium. Judge Linares is a fellow of the American Bar Association and has been honored with several prestigious recognitions, including the New Jersey State Bar Distinguished Judicial Service Award, the James J. McLaughlin Professionalism Award presented by the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Gerald B. O'Connor Award. He is also the recipient of several lifetime achievement awards.
Breaking ground as the first Hispanic to serve as Chief of the United States District Court of New Jersey and the first Cuban-born District Court Chief in the United States, Judge Linares champions diversity and inclusion and has helped change the face of the federal court. He is an active member of the firm and serves on McCarter's Diversity Committee and as a member of the firm's Social Justice Project Team. Judge Linares is also involved in numerous civic and nonprofit activities and regularly volunteers his time to various causes supporting young adults through both educational efforts and local youth sports programs.
Hon. Jose Linares, continued...
Judge Linares is a member of Cento Amici, a community organization dedicated to providing need-based scholarship assistance to qualified students in New Jersey. Its mission is to enhance the educational opportunities for those who need it most, and who are most underserved by existing need-based programs. Cento Amici has financially supported students from Immaculate Conception High School for the past four years, with a total of $35,000 in scholarship contributions.
Jose...
You have not only made a difference in the lives of our Young Lions, but you have also made an extraordinary mark in the field of law. Thank you for living a life of service to others, for advocating the importance of diversity and inclusion, and for greatly honoring your Cuban heritage. You have employed kindness and integrity in each of your endeavors and have truly made an "impact" on the world.
This evening we proudly salute you!

-THE "HEART OF A LION" AWARD-
...presented annually at The Pride Gala to a member of the Immaculate family who "exemplifies the values set forth by the founding Sisters of Charity, and who has achieved a lifetime of distinguished service and unmitigated spirit...one who truly possesses the "Heart of a Lion."
Adriana Mazza (Bonavolonta) was born in Newark, NJ to Ralph and Mary Bonavolonta. Ralph emigrated to the United States from Italy, arriving in New York the day the stock mark crashed in 1929. Her mother Mary was born and raised in Newark, NJ. They met in 1938, married in 1940, and celebrated 70 years of married life together. They had three children and Adriana was the youngest. Her parents were devout Catholics, firm believers in Catholic education, and for most of their lives were active parishioners in their church. Even though it was financially difficult for them, they managed to send all three of their children through Catholic schools. Their two daughters attended Immaculate Conception and their son went to St. Benedict's Prep.
Adriana's family resided in Newark until 1958 when her parents bought a long-dreamed of home in Montclair, close to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Thus, they initially joined that parish. When they realized OLMC did not have a school, they joined Immaculate Conception Parish and supported both for many years. They were active in both parishes, believing it was their responsibility to give back to their community in any way they could. They instilled those same values in their children and grandchildren.
Adriana attended both Immaculate Conception Grammar and High Schools, graduating in 1969. She then attended Seton Hall University, majoring in History and Political Science, and graduated in 1973. After beginning her career, she went on to receive a Paralegal Certification from New York University and an MBA in Human Resource Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University, attending both institutions in the evening, while working full time. Adriana worked for several companies during her career, holding positions from Benefits & Compensation Analyst up through VP Human Resources. She recently retired from Ricoh USA, Inc.
Adriana resides in Fairfield, NJ with her husband Mark. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Danielle and her husband Douglas, and a son, Christopher, and have recently become grandparents. She is an active member of St. Thomas More Parish, serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She joined the Board of Trustees of Immaculate Conception High School in 2013, and recently became its Chairperson. She is committed to continuing the good work started by past Chairpersons, to strengthening ICHS as we prepare for our Centennial anniversary in 2025, and to ensuring that ICHS remains a viable institution for the next 100 years.
Adriana Mazza, continued...
Adriana,
We are delighted to bestow the "Heart of a Lion" award on you in gratitude for your many years of service to your alma mater. You provided leadership during the "Save Immaculate" campaign and showed great dedication to the future of IC by your many years as a trustee . I am sure that the Sisters of Charity from 1925 look down on you with a smile, knowing that their vision endures, while we are proudly looking forward to celebrating that incredible milestone of a
100th birthday! Yes, God is good.

It's GALA season-
