You can still participate in the auction!Welcome to The Roaring Twenties, an auction to benefit Meadow Montessori School. This year we'll celebrate safely once again with an online auction! This silent auction is open for bidding NOW! Items are added as received, so check back often!
How It Works
You do not need to register to view items, but you must register to bid and provide a valid credit or debit card. You may bid on any open item and purchase event tickets for all raffle items now. Raffle tickets must be paid for at the time of purchase. Auction items marked "Preview" are our "live" auction items that will go live in a 12-hour auction 'blast' beginning at 9am February 4, 2022. All silent auction items will close at 9pm on Friday, February 4th, 2022.
You will be notified via text if you have been outbid and also have the ability to increase your bid. At the close of the auction, you will be notified if you've won, and you can check out - right on your device! If you do not check out by 9pm on February 6, we will automatically check you out using the card on file. It's THAT easy!
Who We Are
Since 1984, Meadow Montessori School has been a leader in independent education for children throughout southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio. We serve students of every age, from infant through high school. In addition to academic rigor, Meadow's students enjoy daily instrumental and vocal music, as well as foreign languages, physical education, and art instruction. You can also find our students tending their organic gardens, or on the farm learning to preserve their harvest. We are unlike any school in the region. At Meadow, we educate the whole child. This is evident in the well-rounded, and well-prepared, graduates who leave us to attend four-year colleges and universities each year. In the past ten years, Meadow Montessori has sent 93% of our graduates on to four-year colleges and universities.
We don't do this alone. We rely on our community - our team. You are part of our team. We work diligently each year to close the 30% gap between tuition dollars received and the cost to educate each child. Like most organizations across the country, Meadow Montessori felt the impact of COVID-19 and the educational changes it brought about. Fundraising has never been more important. One way we keep tuitions affordable, while still meeting our immediate operating needs, is by hosting an annual fundraising auction. This year we have made the transition to an online auction format and we are excited by the possibilities!
So buckle up and let's bid!
Meet Our 2022 Honorary Chairperson

Dr. Carol Schlagheck
"It is our job to seek the truth and put constant pressure on our leaders until we get answers." - Helen Thomas
Dr. Carol Schlagheck came to Eastern Michigan University in 1994 as an Assistant Professor in Journalism within the Department of English Language and Literature. She graduated from Bowling Green State University (1997) with her Ph.D. in Mass Communication after completing her M.A. in Journalism from Michigan State University (1992). Dr. Schlagheck was a freelance writer for publications including Quill (Society of Professional Journalists), News Photographer (National Press Photographers Association), Crane's Detroit Business, Editor & Publisher, Michigan Business, Toledo Magazine, Antique Week, and several parenting publications. While still in high school, she helped start a community weekly newspaper in Monroe County, Mich., then spent a decade as a reporter and copy editor at The Monroe Evening News, where she met her future husband, EMU alum Charles Slat.
Together, Carol and Charlie were long-time residents and advocates for the Monroe community, where they raised three children and produced two children's books about local history and lore (Legends of the River Raisin and Ghosts of the River Raisin).
Carol was instrumental in revising the Journalism curriculum over the years. As the journalism profession evolved to require work across the print and digital platforms, Carol led an interdisciplinary effort to create a new major, Media Studies and Journalism, and to move the Journalism program to the School of Communication, Media & Theatre Arts to better meet these curriculum needs.
Carol Schlagheck was as passionate about teaching as she was about the power of the press and the need for an independent and free press. She served for years as chair of the Student Media Board and thought all journalism majors should learn their craft by working on the Echo. When her husband Charlie, a former Echo news editor, passed away, she honored him by creating a scholarship in his name for a Journalism student to pursue their dreams. Nathan Bomey, an alum, an accomplished author and a USA Today reporter, describes Carol's influence on students and the profession: "At a time when the truth has come under assault from the highest office in our nation, Carol has doubled down on facts. She has stood for a profession that some would erroneously call "fake news" because she knows that journalism has a central role to play in preserving our democracy. And in doing so, she has given those of us who are still working in journalism the courage to continue fighting to hold public officials accountable, tell compelling stories and reach marginalized audiences."
