About the Alzheimer's Association
More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and by 2050, without a cure, this number may triple. In Connecticut alone, there are more than 80,000 individuals living with the disease and 178,000 family members and friends providing their care. Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 that cannot be prevented, treated or cured. The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research.
As the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's research, we've played a role in nearly every major development in dementia science. A groundswell of support from companies, families and individuals over the past 40 years has mobilized the Association into the global leader with the highest impact in Alzheimer's research. We continue to fuel global transformation, while expanding local impact in care and support every day for those battling this devastating disease and their caregivers.
With offices across the state in Norwalk, Norwich and our main office in Southington, we are able to offer 24/7 support, family training seminars, care consultations, Safe Return training, support groups and educational programs for both healthcare professionals and caregivers. The Chapter has influenced public policy changes and has provided support to Alzheimer's and dementia research in the hope of finding a cure.
