This has been our hardest year ever. COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on our community, but the negative impacts are magnified for nonprofits that provide direct services to those affected by layoffs, reduced hours or income, and illness.
Pixie is still providing adoption and rescue services, assisting with owner surrenders and transfers from other shelters, supplying pet food and medications, and providing vital veterinary care to the pets of owners affected by illness or loss of income. Calls for assistance have increased dramatically as families downsize or relocate to deal with job loss and are no longer able to keep their pets in their combined households or provide essential care.
As other shelters closed their doors, we expanded services. The Pixie Project is the only lifeline for too many owners who are struggling to afford the care their pets need during this crisis or who are facing family or medical emergencies.
