David Hyde Pierce is an Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor and director who has appeared in three productions for The Public Theater, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, and Zero Positive; he will someday appear there again in the new musical The Visitor. Last seen with Bette Midler in his Tony-nominated performance as Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly!, his other Broadway credits include Beyond Therapy, The Heidi Chronicles, Spamalot, Curtains (Tony Award), Accent on Youth, La BĂȘte, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Tony nomination). Off-Broadway he has created roles in new works by Adam Bock, John Kander and Greg Pierce, Richard Greenberg and Mark O'Donnell.


Pierce made his Broadway directing debut with Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi's musical, It Shoulda Been You, and went on to direct productions of Vanya and Sonia, David Lindsay-Abaire's Ripcord, and a gangster-themed The Importance of Being Earnest. His film credits include Sleepless in Seattle, Wolf, Nixon, Isn't She Great, Wet Hot American Summer, Down With Love, A Bug's Life, and The Perfect Host. His television credits include a short but happy stint on Norman Lear's political satire "The Powers That Be," and a long but happy stint as Dr. Niles Crane on the comedy "Frasier," for which he won four Emmy Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Award.


David is a longtime advocate and spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Association and for CaringKind, and is a board member and fan of Orchestra of St. Luke's.
