Join us for the inaugural 1stGEN Scholarship Gala: Transformation

In partnership with Chicago State University, the Chicago State Foundation will host a live broadcast of the inaugural 1stGEN Scholarship Gala: Transformation presented by Greeley and Hansen on Friday, October 2, 2020, 7:00pm-9:00pm CDT. Laser-focused on education and socio-economic equity, Chicago State University has created an intentional campus community that delivers a carefully curated suite of wraparound supports designed to propel the success of first-generation and non-traditional students from diverse populations.

Designated by the Department of Education as a Predominantly Black Institution, more than 60% of CSU's student scholars are the first in their families to attend college. The greatest roadblock to first-gen success isn't a lack of talent, or desire, but the lack of financial resources. Dollars raised from the gala will be used to help remove that barrier, through the creation of the CSU 1stGEN Scholarship Fund.

In addition to celebrating the young student scholars who will be the beneficiaries of 1stGEN Scholarships, special highlights of the gala will include the presentation of the first-ever Cougar Servant Leadership Awards to former Illinois Senate President, and long-time CSU champion, Emil Jones, Jr., Chicago Public Schools CEO and CSU Alumna, Dr. Janice K. Jackson, and longtime education and Arts advocate, and Bronzeville Children's Museum founder, Peggy A. Montes.
