In March of 2018, Denver Audubon launched a new program at Children's Hospital Colorado South Campus to connect children to nature through bird watching. A bird feeding station was set up and volunteers not only refill the feeders but visit with patients and their families in the waiting room to help with bird identification and talk about why birds are an important part of our environment.

Birdwatching can reduce anxiety and depression and works to soften the stress and uncertainty of illness, in jury, and hospitalization. Hospital staff and administration have been so pleased with the program that they've presented it as something for consideration at other locations.

In appreciation, some of the patients of children's hospital have painted and decorated a few special birdhouses for our fund-raising auction.
