Honorees

Lateefah Simon

 

Lateefah Simon is the President of Akonadi Foundation, which nurtures movement building to advance racial justice in Oakland. A nationally recognized advocate for civil rights, Lateefah brings over 20 years of executive experience advancing opportunities for communities of color and low-income communities in the Bay Area. Before joining Akonadi, she was Program Director for the San Francisco-based Rosenberg Foundation


Lateefah has received numerous awards for her work, including the MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, the Jefferson Award for extraordinary public service, and in 2017 'Most Promising New Foundation President' by Inside Philanthropy. Lateefah was elected to the BART Board of Directors and Gov. Jerry Brown appointed her to the California State University's Board of Trustees in 2016. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Tipping Point.

Julie Castro Abrams

 

Julie strengthens organizations, boards, and small businesses, enabling them to achieve their growth goals and breakthrough results. She is an experienced CEO and director, a sought-after speaker, and widely recognized for her ability to connect people and facilitate rich conversations that result in real impact.

Through her consulting, Julie creates high performance boards, high impact brands, and high production, multicultural teams. Julie is also the CEO and Chair of How Women Lead, a robust network of women dedicated to promoting diverse women's voices and propelling women's leadership forward.

Dr. Sarita A. Mohanty

 

Dr. Sarita A. Mohanty is the Vice President, Care Coordination of Medicaid and Vulnerable Populations for Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Mohanty directs efforts at a national level to identify leading care coordination and care delivery models and facilitate the spread of those models across KP's portfolio for Medicaid and vulnerable members in all regions and states. She serves as the accountable executive for the development and implementation of Thrive Local, an enterprise-wide program to connect health care and social services providers to address the pressing social needs including housing, food, safety, utilities and more for millions of people across the United States. Prior to this role, Dr. Mohanty was the Regional Executive Director, Medi-Cal Strategy and Operations for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Northern California

Dr. Mohanty currently practices as an internal medicine physician at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Adult Medicine clinic.

Chef Deuki Hong was named to both Zagat and Forbes 30 Under 30 List, Hong is the Owner and chef at Sunday Bird in San Francisco, and also the author of his own cookbook, Koreatown. In partnership with the Boba Guys, he oversees Sunday at the Museum - the Asian Art Museum's deliciously transformed cafe experience.
