About 826 Boston
826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. Founded by writer Dave Eggers, 826 Boston is one of eight chapters of youth writing centers across the country. Since we opened our doors in 2007, 826 Boston has provided high-quality writing support and publishing opportunities to 25,000 students- most of whom would otherwise not have access to high-quality writing and literacy programs. 826 Boston programs are offered free of charge to students and families and include after-school tutoring, storytelling and bookmaking field trips, in-school writing and publishing projects, and creative writing workshops. 826 Boston is currently expanding by opening Writers' Rooms inside Boston Public Schools. 826 Boston publishes books of student writing that highlight the often overlooked voices in Boston. By sharing these important stories with the world, 826 Boston provides a platform for student voices and gives students the confidence and writing and communication skills needed to succeed. Now more than ever, we feel it is important to lift up, honor, and listen to what young people have to say.
