THANK YOU!

On May 2, 2019, theVillage held its annual fundraising benefit Art Works. This year, Art Works raised over $160,000 for children and families healing from trauma in the Greater Philadelphia area, and we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for joining us in the Power of We with your outstanding support! Together, we are powerful.

About the Village:

For more than 142 years, theVillage has provided hope and healing to children and families in the Philadelphia region whose lives have been affected by trauma. Throughout the decades, meaningful collaboration with numerous like-minded partners - from faith-based organizations to corporate partners to community organizers to hospitals and healthcare professionals - have strengthened and expanded our vision, and supporters like you have helped bring our mission to life. We employ a range of life-changing services, including evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment methods to help families and communities envision a better future and to address societal challenges, including violence, poverty, mental health issues, addiction, racism, and more.

Dr. Roy Wade Jr., MD, PHD, MPH

TheVillage is delighted to recognize Dr. Roy Wade, Jr. as our 2019 Healing Spirits Honoree. Dr. Wade is an expert in trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which aligns with theVillage's mission to provide vital services to children and families impacted by trauma. Dr. Wade is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in the Division of General Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and is a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at The University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Wade was instrumental in advocating for a partnership between CHOP's Cobb's Creek Primary Care location and theVillage to offer trauma therapy to children in need. Dr. Wade feels strongly that the on-site presence of therapists from theVillage trained in evidence-based practices minimizes many common barriers to care and expands trauma treatment for those children who need it most. Dr. Wade also supports theVillage's Southwest Children's Wellness Collaborative, a collective impact initiative seeking to improve health and wellness for children and families in Southwest Philadelphia.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wade has worked to improve health outcomes for at-risk populations. His research focuses on the intersection between childhood poverty, adversity, and well-being. Dr. Wade translates research on the science of childhood adversity and toxic stress into effective strategies to improve community-level systems of care in economically distressed communities.
