This year we honor Dan Flood, owner of Central House Tavern!
Dan, an avid sports fan and lover of the outdoors, was born in Westborough the son of
Anne-Marie and Jonathan Flood. He grew up on Forbes Street and enjoyed playing
outside with his three sisters and many neighborhood friends. It was a vibrant
neighborhood filled with young kids and friendly seniors, all contributing to what makes
the Town of Westborough so desirable.
His scouting journey began with Pack 100 Cub Scouts where friendships were formed
playing games, doing crafts and of course the Pinewood derby. Dan later joined his
friends in Troop 100 Boy Scouts and loved the monthly camping trips, outside world and
comradery of boy scouting. His favorite part was always the week long Summer camp
at Camp Resolute. Dan was a founding member of Venture Crew 100 which started in
2011 and served in the officer positions of Secretary and Vice President. In 2002 Dan
travelled with 24 crew members to the British Virgin Islands for a 14 day sailing
adventure. In the summer of 2004 Dan travelled with Troop 100 to the Philmont Scout
Ranch for a 10 day, 70 mile backpacking trek in the mountains of New Mexico, hiking
over mountains approaching 12,000 feet. Dan progressed through the scouting ranks
and in 2005 joined the brotherhood of Eagle Scouts.
Dan graduated from St John's High School in 2005, he went on to continue his
education at Johnson & Wales University in Providence Rhode Island graduating in
2009 with a degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management. After graduation the lure of
working for a large hospitality company with stable salary and benefits was tempting,
however, the draw of growing and nurturing the family business "The Central House"
proved stronger. Using skills learned from college, he was able to transform, grow, and
eventually buy the business and continue the thriving community-based business his
grandmother would be proud of. In 2024, the Central House celebrated fifty years of
business with a community block party.
Dan is a longtime member of Westborough Athletic and Social Association (WASA) and
actively supports their scholarships, sporting, Westborough Food Pantry, and other
community service projects. Seeing people happy, giving back to the community, and
enjoying themselves brings him great joy, valuable lessons he learned in school,
community, and scouting. Lessons he plans to pass on to the next generation including
his pride and joy … his son Cash.
