This small cup is a miniature recreation of the center work Kaplan created for her Radical Americana show "Radical Compassion" at the Historic Yellow Springs.

About the Site

Historic Yellow Springs is a living village steeped in distinguished history that stirs the imagination of all who visit. The village has been a place of resort for more than 300. Today, it includes 11 buildings and 142 conserved acres . Historic Yellow Springs hosts a wide range of fine art, sculpture and ceramic classes for adults and children and is home to one of the best regarded art shows in the region. The campus is a beautiful venue for weddings and events and has numerous trails for all who visit to enjoy. The grounds have hosted George Washington and his army, leading 19th century political figures, several thousand orphaned children, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and a motion picture studio.

Artist Statement

I began making pots on a treadle wheel in high school in Ohio over 40 years ago and have continued studying ceramics through independent classes and workshops ever since. I received a BA in Cultural Psychology and Russian from The Ohio State University and an MS in Psychology from Virginia Tech. From 2006 - 2010, I curated "Down to Earth Exhibits and Events," which celebrated connections between functional art and Chester County's local food system, and wrote about the project in Ceramics Monthly in 2007. I am co-curating "Radical Compassion: Art as Social Action," inspired by the John Vickers abolitionist flowerpot described in Potters and Potteries of Chester County. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Art Therapy program at Cedar Crest College. My studio is at home in Downingtown, PA, where my husband and I raised our wonderful son alongside three furry dogs.

• Items with alcohol CANNOT be shipped.
