Seen: Accent Dance NYC's 2026 Gala

Culture is often a dialogue.

Join us on Saturday evening, October 3rd  for SEEN -  our eighth anniversary gala to raise funds for our educational and concert dance initiatives empowering youth and audiences through access, equity, and the transformative power of the arts.

We are proud to say that this year, Accent Dance NYC, a public charity, reached over 14,000 underserved students!

We're also thrilled that acclaimed dancer and choreographer INGRID SILVA will join this year's gala as both choreographer and guest speaker.

The evening will feature Silva's newly commissioned work through our NEXT Emerging Choreographer Commissioning Program as well as other performances by our multicultural dance company -- this year performed in the Ailey Citigroup (black box) Theater -- followed by a lively reception, including cocktails, live music, and an accessible dance party led by our teaching artists (for those who would like to participate).

Silva, a principal dancer for nearly two decades with Dance Theater of Harlem, was the first Afro-Brazilian to be on the cover of Pointe Magazine and also appeared on the cover of Vogue Brasil.  Silva also has pushed for change in the dance world, most visibly in her campaign to expand pointe shoe options for dancers of color, a cause that ultimately moved major manufacturings to expand their offerings.  Her hand-painted pointe shoes are now in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Help us reach our fundraising goal of $150,000 so we can bring our dance residencies and multicultural educational performances to our partner schools as well as showcase engaging new works from the NEXT generation of choreographers.

If you cannot make the event, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support Accent Dance NYC's important work!

Accent Dance NYC's mission is to:

  • Expand access to, and appreciation of, dance;
  • Enhance youth engagement, creativity, confidence, and joy through inclusive and culturally-responsive dance education programs;
  • Showcase a dance company performing works that amplify diverse cultures, perspectives, and identities while highlighting important social issues;
  • Identify, develop, and support the next generation of dancemakers; and
  • Empower communities through outreach and engagement.
