Gum Moon Women's Residence/Asian Women's Resource Center (AWRC) is delighted to announce our Annual Fundraising Gala, which will be held on Saturday, September 12th, 2026, 12 PM PDT, at Far East Cafe. This year's event, "All That Jazz" will be an intimate in-person gathering with lunch and entertainment.

Jo Jo McCoy

Ms. Jo Jo McCoy is the Founder and Artistic Director of Tri-City Nightingale, a nonprofit youth music organization established in 2013 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Jo Jo has more than 25 years of experience in vocal training, choir direction, concert production, and music education. She has dedicated her life to nurturing young musicians not only in artistry, but also in leadership, compassion, and community service.

Under her direction, Tri-City Nightingale has grown into a unique multigenerational music community that brings children and families together through choir, instrumental ensembles, charity concerts, and educational outreach. The organization has performed at local schools, churches, community programs, and major performance venues. All of these events have supported charitable causes including children's programs, human trafficking recovery organizations, domestic violence awareness initiatives, orphan support, and international humanitarian efforts, as well as local public schools and teachers for funding their classroom needs. She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to use music as a platform to inspire hope, unity, and positive change in the community. 

Known for her passionate and heartfelt teaching style, Ms. Jo Jo believes music is more than performance - it is a bridge that connects people, strengthens communities, and shapes the next generation. Her programs emphasize teamwork, discipline, musicianship, integrity, and the importance of serving others through the arts.

Through the years, Ms. Jo Jo has guided countless students onto prestigious stages and competitions, including performances at Carnegie Hall in New York, the SF Opera House, and major international music competitions. Many of her students have continued lifelong friendships and musical journeys through the Nightingale family she helped build.

She often shares that her greatest joy is not simply creating singers, but helping children grow in confidence, caring, and compassionate individuals through the power of music.

Congratulations to Ms. Jo Jo McCoy on receiving this well-deserved Outstanding Community Service Award! This honor is a true testament to her boundless energy, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to lifting those around her.

Dion Lim

Dion Lim is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, television news anchor most recently with ABC7 SF, author, and advocate whose work has informed, empowered, and inspired communities for more than two decades. Renowned for her fearless reporting and unwavering commitment to public service, Dion has built a distinguished career uncovering stories that hold institutions accountable, amplify underrepresented voices, and drive meaningful change.

Throughout her career, Dion has earned national recognition for her groundbreaking reporting on public safety, consumer advocacy, and issues affecting Asian American communities. Her coverage of anti-Asian violence helped spark a national conversation and was featured on Good Morning America, Nightline, 20/20, and major media outlets across the U.S. and abroad. Through thoughtful, compassionate, and persistent journalism, she has helped catalyze public dialogue, influence policy discussions, and strengthen trust between communities and the institutions that serve them.

Beyond the newsroom, Dion is a passionate champion for diversity, equity, and representation. She is a sought-after speaker who shares her expertise on leadership, communication, resilience, and the power of authentic storytelling. As the author of Make Your Moment: The Savvy Woman's Communication Playbook to Getting the Success You Want, she encourages professionals-especially women-to find their voice, communicate with confidence, and pursue opportunities with purpose.

Dion is also the author of AMPLIFY! My Fight for Asian America and currently serves as Chief Strategist for the Asian American Voices Foundation. Today, she is a sought-after keynote speaker and media-presence advisor, helping high-profile executives and elected leaders find their voice in defining moments.

In recognition of her outstanding professional achievements, steadfast advocacy, and lasting contributions to the Asian American community and beyond, Gum Moon Residence Hall is proud to honor Dion Lim as the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Asian Woman Award. Her leadership, resilience, and commitment to uplifting others continue to inspire future generations and embody the spirit of this distinguished recognition.

Tri City Nightingale

For 13 years, Tri-City Nightingale has proudly served Northern California, inspiring young musicians through excellence in music, leadership, and community service. Supported by dedicated parents and volunteers, our students have earned numerous national and international awards through our professional training programs. While rooted locally, the organization's charitable outreach has touched lives around the world, using the universal language of music to support humanitarian causes, foster compassion, and create meaningful impact across communities and cultures. Jamil Tokhi - Piano

Studied piano from the age of five onward, always with a jazz emphasis. Played in the Amador Valley High School Jazz Band (combos and big band) as well as the UC Santa Cruz Jazz Ensembles (combos and big band). Has been a member of a number of groups, notably Kadence Keys, a jazz-funk-inspired cover band with several original songs and professional recordings.

Jack Reed - Drum Kit

A well-known multi-instrumentalist active in the Santa Cruz music scene. Notably the keyboardist for Floratura and the drummer for Flatsun Society, he was also previously a member of the UC Santa Cruz jazz combos and has a long history of jazz studies. His unwavering tempo and disciplined technique are the engine that keeps the group moving.

Gabriel Quevedo - Upright Bass

A professional bassist and talented songwriter based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He played upright bass in jazz band throughout high school and was also a member-and later co-director-of Kadence Keys. His down-to-earth personality and in-the-pocket playing are the glue that holds the group together.

Eliza Cataronga - Vocals

A prolific jazz vocalist with remarkable pitch control and a timeless, classy tone. Her inspired improvised lines are always memorable. Studying with the likes of Carlton Hester at the University of California, Santa Cruz, her knowledge of jazz is unmatched. She also has an extensive catalog of recorded music, notably under the alias Re:Eliza, formerly known as elizatwinkies.
