Power(ful) Plants: Nurturing Nature on the North Fork

Join Perfect Earth Project to learn how to nurture a healthy, biodiverse, and beautiful yard with native plants and more! Experts include Stacy Paetzel of Marshall Paetzel Landscape Architecture, Jim Glover of Glover Perennials, and Tim Wheeler, ecologist and Perfect Earth's Living Lands Director. Come meet these local eco-organizations including Peconic Estuary Partnership, Group for the East End, Peconic Baykeeper, Glover Perennials, and ReWild Long Island. Plus, we've lined up some PRFCT garden tours on the North Fork after the panel discussion-open to all.

Speakers 

Jim Glover

Jim Glover is the owner/operator of Glover Perennials, a grower of specialty groundcovers, perennials, grasses, vines, woodies and natives founded in 1997. Jim received a B.S. in Community Forestry & Horticulture from the University of Vermont and a Master of Forest Resources degree in Urban Horticulture from the University of Washington, Center for Urban Horticulture in 1990. Prior to starting Glover Perennials, he worked extensively with wholesale and retail nurseries as well as landscape contractors. Glover Perennials focuses on popularizing plants not in the mainstream with a strong focus on popularizing natives. It offers more than 1200 species and varieties of plants including more than 250 species of NE U.S. native plants.

Stacy Paetzel
Stacy Marshall Paetzel, RLA founded her North Fork-based firm Marshall Paetzel Landscape Architecture in 2004. She serves on the board of the New York State Board for Landscape Architecture, is a trustee of the Landcraft Garden Foundation, and was formerly co-chair of the Parrish Art Museum's Landscape Pleasures. Growing up on a farm surrounded by open meadows and mountains inspired Stacy's love of landscapes that have a sense of place beyond the property line. She honed her skills at a land planning and conservation firm in East Hampton, where she learned to enjoy the challenge of designing around some of the country's most stringent environmental regulations and discovered her love of incorporating native plants into her designs. She enjoys finding new and creative ways to incorporate habitat for birds, pollinators, and beneficial insects-layering native plantings that offer food, shelter, and nesting sites throughout the seasons.

Tim Wheeler 
Tim Wheeler is an ecologist and Perfect Earth Project's Living Lands Director. He holds a B.S. in Biology from St. Lawrence University and an M.S. in Environmental Management and Biodiversity from the University of Rouen. Since finishing his graduate degree in France, Tim has worked with land trusts, private landowners, and public gardens, including Wave Hill, and nonprofits in the Bronx, doing everything from land management and restoration work to gardening and environmental education programming.
