We've gathered a panel of experts--veterinary oncologist Dr. Nicole Leibman, environmental designer Jason LaGarenne, and landscape designer and Perfect Earth Project founder Edwina von Gal--to share their wisdom on the many ways to make your yard as animal, pet friendly, and beautiful as possible! Speakers

Jason LaGarenne

Jason LaGarenne is an environmental designer, landscape professional, and advocate for ecologically responsible land stewardship. As the founder of a landscape company in East Hampton, he designs and manages some of the region's most distinctive residential and commercial landscapes, with a focus on creating gardens that are both beautiful and ecologically resilient. A graduate of Binghamton University with a degree in Environmental Science, Jason approaches every project through the lens of ecology. His work is deeply informed by the native plant communities of the East End and emphasizes biodiversity, habitat restoration, soil health, and sustainable landscape practices. He is a passionate advocate for the preservation of Long Island's fragile coastal ecosystems and has been an outspoken voice for reducing unnecessary chemical inputs, protecting native habitats, and promoting environmentally responsible land management. 

Nicole Leibman 

Dr. Nicole Leibman serves on the Board of Directors of the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) and is the Director of the Cancer Institute and Senior Veterinarian at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center. She earned her DVM from the University of Minnesota, completed her internship at the Animal Medical Center, and her medical oncology residency at Colorado State University. A board-certified veterinary oncologist, Dr. Leibman has led groundbreaking research in canine and feline cancer, including clinical trials in immunotherapy, melanoma vaccines, and lymphoma, and collaborates with leading institutions including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and NYU Langone Health.


Edwina von Gal

A leading voice in sustainable gardening and landscape design, Edwina von Gal founded Perfect Earth Project in 2013 to promote nature-based, toxic-free land care for the health of people, their pets, and the planet. As principal of her eponymous landscape design firm since 1984, Edwina created landscapes with a focus on simplicity, sustainability, and beauty for private and public clients around the world. Her work has been published widely, including in The New York Times, Vogue, and Architectural Digest, and the award-winning book Fresh Cuts. In 2024, she was named one of the top 50 Creatives in America by Wallpaper* magazine. She has served on boards and committees for a number of horticultural organizations and currently serves on the board of What Is Missing, Maya Lin's multifaceted media artwork about the loss of biodiversity, Longue Vue's National Council, and is a member of the Native Plant Trust's Council. Her awards include the LongHouse Visionary Award from LongHouse, the New York School of Interior Design's Green Design Award, the Isamu Noguchi Award, and Guild Hall's Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award for the Visual Arts.
