Bill Davis Memorial Golf Outing
Established by a group of Savannah State College (SSC) alumni, the Homecoming Golf Outing began in 1971 as an opportunity for individuals to get together to support Savannah State College. Over the years, the event grew and the support was specifically aimed at scholarship assistance for current students. In 1984, the Savannah State University Foundation accepted the charge of hosting the Homecoming Golf Outing, recognizing the contributions made by then- Coach William R. "Bill " Davis, head football coach for SSC from 1986 to 1992 and then Savannah State University (SSU) from 2000 until his passing in 2001.
Coach Davis's legacy of support for SSU students continues to be recognized during the annual Homecoming celebration hosted by Savannah State University and University Advancement. The event brings together alumni, family, and friends and supports need-based scholarships for SSU students and academic programs. The annual celebration rises to the occasion of securing the mission and vision of Savannah State University.
