Only 51% of youth in America read proficiently, and this number drops dramatically in underserved areas. By backing fun, educational programs that meet students where they are, we are helping kids meet their full potential.
Last year's Strike for Literacy kicked off the St. Brown Foundation's partnership with Rhymes With Reason, which uses music to help kids close the vocabulary gap. Weeks later, founder Austin Martin ran a workshop for 100 students at Durfee Elementary-Middle School, teaching new words through songs they already had on repeat, and Amon-Ra surprised them with a video message.
That was just the start. Amon-Ra and the St. Brown Foundation donated backpacks and school supplies for 160+ Durfee students to kick off second semester. He then spent the offseason reading with kids in Detroit and in Los Angeles. Your support at Strike for Literacy will help the foundation's impact grow into year 2.
