Chef Dean Jeffrey Kropp, of Staten Island, pastry chef, educator, and author, looks forward to sharing his passion for the culinary arts and the fascinating story behind his book, Cooking for Gold, while treating guests to some of his signature pastries.

Cooking for Gold tells the remarkable true story of the founding of the International Exhibition of Culinary Art (IKA), the world's largest and most prestigious culinary competition. Set at the dawn of the twentieth century, the novel follows visionary German publisher Matthaeus Carl Banzer as he strives to create an international cooking competition inspired by the Olympic Games. Despite skepticism from chefs and financiers alike, Banzer's dream ultimately becomes a global culinary tradition that continues today.

Through vivid storytelling, Chef Kropp brings to life the history, pageantry, and passion behind competitive cooking, offering readers a glimpse into the origins of the culinary competitions that continue to captivate audiences around the world. The book has received significant recognition and has been approved for consideration in the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction category.
