Located in Pauillac, in the heart of the Medoc, the vineyards of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild date back to Roman times. The estate's proximity to the Atlantic moderates temperature swings, protecting the grapes from extreme heat or untimely frost, while the gravelly soil forces vine roots deep into the earth, adding minerality to the fruit. Lafite has been celebrated for centuries for its winemaking excellence and was a favorite of European royalty; it ranks among the five First Growths of the legendary 1855 Bordeaux Classification, alongside Chateau Latour, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Haut-Brion, and Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The wine is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with small proportions of Merlot and Petit Verdot, prized for its refined structure and long aging potential. This 1986 vintage has been cellared at 57 degrees since release.
