Los Ninos Primero Board Member, Marietta D. Murton, is the founder of The Inner Bean Project, a movement weaving together Peruvian ancestral knowledge, modern neuroscience, and contemporary art. At its heart is a small but powerful symbol: the lima bean, traditionally significant in Andean culture and reimagined to represent the emotional center of the brain. Each Inner Bean is handcrafted with natural beans, resin, acrylic paint, and gold leaf - a sacred object of remembrance, reflection, and resilience - inviting people to reconnect with their inner voice through the affirmation: "I am well. I am safe. I am loved."

The Inner Bean Project is a movement that brings together art, neuroscience, and cultural heritage to nurture emotional well-being.

At the heart of our project is a humble yet powerful symbol: the Peruvian pallar (lima bean), soft and curved, shaped like the brain's emotional center. This bean is much more than a dietary staple-its design embodies layers of profound meaning inspired by ancient Moche culture. For the Moche, the bean transcended nourishment to represent the cyclical dance of life and death as well as transformation.
