This course provides participants with an overview of the complex social dynamics of domestic violence as well as skills for working with domestic violence survivors and their children.  40-hours is the minimum standard of training set forth by the Illinois Domestic Violence Act (IDVA) in order for services to be confidential under the act.  The training is a requirement for anyone (staff and interns/volunteers) working directly with survivors at domestic violence programs in Illinois. The training is also offered to professionals across a wide range of disciplines who are looking to provide informed and effective responses to survivors.

Participants who miss a training session, or portion of a session longer than 15 minutes, will be required to make up the missed time before receiving a completion certificate.  Make-up plans can be arranged through the training facilitator and may involve attending the missed topic/s the next time CAWC offers the 40HR training.  CAWC holds the 40HR training a minimum of two times a year. If more than one day of the training is missed, the entire 40HR Training may need to be repeated. Participants should inform the Training & Education Coordinator as soon as they are aware of the need to miss any workshops.  If you already know that you will need to miss a session please do not register for the training, wait until it is offered again, or visit https://ilcdvp.org/events/ to find another training opportunity.

CAWC is approved as a training site by the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals (ICDVP) Board. The ICDVP Board has established required training topics and minimum time frames for each workshop. This training meets the 40HR Training requirement to sit for the ICDVP exam.

CAWC is also a registered continuing education sponsor with the IL Dept. of Professional Regulation for LSW, LCSW, LPC & LCPC (license # 159.001581) and B.C.E.N.T (license # 290.000065).
