An entryway overflowing with slippers and shoes was a sure sign that a home was full of love, family, friends and YES - food. Arriving at the door, we'd leave our footwear outside and call out a casual "Tao Po!" ("We're Here!") before stepping in.

And that's where the tsinelas came in. Tsinelas were the slippers we wore around the house, a small but familiar part of everyday life. But there was one golden rule - never step inside with your outside slippers on! It was a simple ritual, but one that made the home feel like its own special world - a place where you could settle in, share a meal and stay awhile.

Though introduced during the Spanish era as a symbol of status, tsinelas became woven into Filipino home culture - transforming from footwear into something much more meaningful: a symbol of belonging.
