What is Big Heart Fest?

Big Heart Fest named for "Big Johnny's Big Heart" is a music festival celebrating John O'Brien and his joyful, giving spirit that lives on every day. All proceeds will benefit the Sarcoma Foundation of America. Big Heart Fest will take place on Saturday, June 13, from 4:00pm to 10:00pm at Chief O'Neill's Pub and Restaurant located at 3471 North Elston Avenue in Chicago.

What Brings Us Together

Big Johnny was loving and generous to his family and friends many times over. They have fond and unforgettable memories of epic parties, hosted by Big Johnny and the many extraordinary expressions of generosity bestowed on those he knew and loved. His celebrations were anything but ordinary, always legendary, and usually included a personally written song that he performed for them.

John O'Brien passed away following a lengthy battle with sarcoma cancer in July 2022. Sarcoma is a rare cancer that doesn't receive the attention or funds directed to more commonly known cancers. The John W. O'Brien Family Foundation's primary goal is to raise awareness and funds to help end sarcoma.

There could be no better place to experience this fun event than Chief O'Neill's Pub and Restaurant - Big Johnny's favorite Irish destination in Chicago. JWO's favorite drinks will be available as well as the iconic Chief O'Neill's Irish buffet. Get ready for unique silent and live auction items PLUS an incredible lineup up of musical acts- all in the spirit of Big Johnny!

A Vision of Hope

During the fall of 2025, the Sarcoma Foundation of America presented Pat O'Brien with the "Vision of Hope Award" in New York City. This honor celebrated the efforts of the John W. O'Brien Family Foundation towards groundbreaking and life changing research. Thanks to Big Heart Fest, over the past few years, we have been able to fund two important research grants:
• In 2024, Dr. Mike Stacey of Old Dominion University received the John O'Brien Memorial Research Award
• In 2026, Dr. Mitchell Cairo of New York Medical College received the award
