Join Us for Birdies for Breakthroughs - A Charity Golf Tournament Benefiting Innovative Childhood Cancer Research
Sunday, April 26, 2026 @ Olivas Links - Ventura, CA
Shotgun Start with Scramble Play - Teams of 4
Register as a single player or team.
Birdies for Breakthroughs is a day for everyone - seasoned golfers, beginners, and everyone in between. With scramble play, no tournament experience is required and every swing counts. The fun starts at check-in and carries all the way through with on-course contests and great company. Register as a foursome or sign up solo and we'll take care of the rest.
But this tournament is about more than golf - it's about funding breakthroughs that give children a fighting chance and better options. Magnus, a local Ventura boy and now an avid golfer, was just three years old when he was diagnosed with cancer. His only treatment option was a bone marrow transplant - a grueling road that he barely survived. Now fourteen, Magnus faces lifelong effects from his treatment, but he is here. Many children are not that fortunate. Help us write the next chapter in childhood cancer research!
Come for the golf, stay for the cause!

About Unravel
Unravel Pediatric Cancer, a non-profit 501(c)(3), was created out of love, loss, and the urgent need for change. Founded by Libby and Tony Kranz after the death of their beautiful daughter Jennifer "JLK" Kranz in 2014 from DIPG, a fatal brain cancer, Unravel is dedicated to funding innovative pediatric cancer research through awareness and action. Jennifer's story, and the cell line created from her tumor, continue to drive forward research around the world.
Unravel's funding model allows researchers to be nimble and pursue the most promising ideas without the restriction of red tape and bottlenecks. Unravel focuses on funding early-stage research and innovation, seeking out labs that are doing forward-thinking work - because children deserve more than the treatments of yesterday. The hope is to one day unravel all cancers.

Meet Magnus
Magnus has a gentle heart, old-soul wisdom, funny wit and quiet determination. He's thoughtful, kind, and deeply resilient-never one to complain, even during the hardest moments of his treatment. Magnus carried himself with grace and strength through every step of his cancer journey - qualities that still shine in him today.
At just two years old, Magnus was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML) after unusual bruising led to a series of tests. There was no innovative treatment, no array of options - just one path forward. His only chance at survival was a bone marrow transplant with the odds of survival at 50/50. Thankfully, a generous young man in Poland was a perfect match and donated his marrow to save Magnus's life.
Magnus received his transplant in December 2014, but the road that followed was anything but smooth. He endured intense chemotherapy, graft-versus-host disease, high steroid use, sepsis, cardiac arrest and even an induced coma. After 18 months in the hospital, he had to relearn how to lift his head, walk, and eat...but ultimately he emerged as a survivor.
Now a teenager and considered cancer free, Magnus enjoys playing video games, tennis and especially golf but is living with the long-term effects of his treatment. He faces challenges in school and in life but never gives up.
His story is one of grit and survival - but it's also a sobering reminder of how far we still have to go. Every day, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer. Too many of them face the same impossible odds Magnus did, and too many don't make it.
That's why we play. Every birdie, every swing, every dollar raised goes toward funding the innovative research that gives the next Magnus not just a chance to survive - but a better way to do it.

Not a Golfer? We Still Need You.
You don't have to swing a club to be part of Birdies for Breakthroughs. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make the day run seamlessly - from early morning set-up and player check-in to running on-course contests and assisting with the post-tournament lunch and awards. Volunteering is a fun, meaningful way to be part of the day, support a cause that matters, and connect with your community. If you'd like to join our volunteer team, we'd love to have you.
