While wild Virginia Opossums may forage for mushrooms, Lucy has been preserved as art on one! Etched by hand with a wood-burning tool onto artist's fungus (Ganoderma applanatum), this whimsical portrait captures the Wildlife Center's beloved one-eyed Virginia Opossum. Sealed with a protective resin, it makes a unique natural display piece while retaining the subtle texture and earthy character of its woodland origins.
Artist's fungus grows on dead deciduous trees throughout the United States and has served as an artistic medium for centuries. Though the fungus itself is non-poisonous, this piece is intended for display only.
Dimensions: Base: 9.5" x 6.5" x 8"; Mushroom: 11.5" long
Thanks to the generosity of members of the Wildlife Center's Board of Directors, shipping is included for the winning bidder (U.S. addresses only).
