Moon Room friends love music and based on their interest we explore movement and mark making while listening to New York mashed musicians to create our Moon & Music Stool. Ranging from hip hop to jazz and even classical, the students explored a sensory-rich experience. The Moon Room's artwork depicts images of serenity and wonder. Each color features artistic strokes that showcase unique marks. The Moon Room team had the opportunity to decorate their piece with a variety of tools, offering a fun and engaging way to foster their creativity. Furthermore, all the materials used provided Moon Room with a space for nonverbal artistic expression. The Moon Room team is very proud that their work is represented in this collaborative art piece.
One lucky winner and a friend will join Moon room teachers for pizza afterschool in the classroom. Then we'll do some crafts and a fun painting activity. Moon Room teachers are super excited and can't wait!
Inspired by NYC's iconic fruit stands, our class transformed a simple step stool into a vibrant work of art bursting with color and personality. Using the rich playful hues of the fruits we gathered at our nearby fruit stand, each child helped bring the piece to life. The result is a cheerful and functional keepsake that captures the energy and sweetness of childhood in the city.
The lucky winner will enjoy a playdate with their teachers and a friend of their choice. We will head out for a fun afternoon of pizza and ice cream, followed by creative time back at school, where they will design their own tie-dye shirts to take home once finished.
Throughout this school year, the Garden Room 2AM children have enjoyed imaginative play that involves selling and buying food. From coffee shop to ice cream parlor to supermarket, the friends love to make requests and provide for each other. These thoughtful interactions inspired the creation of our Garden Bodega Stool. A local bodega holds a special place in any New Yorker's heart for the convenience, comfort, and community on offer. To communicate this feeling, the children have made unique and colorful marks on our stool to represent the myriad ways that a bodega provides. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and wonder are on display on the shelves of this collaborative art piece.
Garden 3AM- As the Garden Room 3AM parents have seen from classroom videos, our students love to dance, make music, and perform for each other. This interest combined with New York City's recognition as the premier global hub for performing arts and theater led us to our stool's theme -- Garden Room on Broadway!!! During the creation of our collaborative project, the children had opportunities to perform and also serve as audience members for each other. Size, perspective, and lighting are all concepts the children explored while using printmaking techniques to create their audience. Following its completion, this golden pedestal has become the Garden Room's beloved celebratory stage within the classroom.
One lucky winner and a friend will join the Garden Room teachers in the classroom for a special sweet treat, a surprise art project, and a dance party. We can't wait to spend this special time with you! (One playdate for either a Garden 2AM or Garden 3AM Family)
Community Through Our Eyes
In collaboration with Lucia, our Star Room young photographers explored the world around them through a special photography unit. The children took walks through our neighborhood and school, capturing meaningful moments and places that make up their community. Inspired by their observations, they thoughtfully used the photos taken to decorate this stool using elements that reflect what they saw, felt, and experienced. This one-of-a-kind piece represents their creativity, perspective, and growing connection to the world around them.
Join us for a special Star Room playdate hosted by your teachers! Your child and a Star Room friend of their choosing will be invited to stay after dismissal for an afternoon full of fun. The children will enjoy a delicious pizza lunch, build their own sweet sundaes, and participate in a hands-on art activity. This joyful experience is a wonderful opportunity for children to spend extra time with their teachers and friends in a relaxed, playful setting.
The Sesame Street Stool is a child-led creation based on the interests of the Sky Room 2AM kids, who love Sesame Street! This classic TV show is set on a fictional street in Manhattan, New York City. The kids painted the stool in different colors to represent their favorite characters, like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Oscar the Grouch. While painting, they listened to Sesame Street songs to get their creative energy flowing. The Sky Room is so proud to share its hard work and creativity with you through this collaborative art piece!
The Jewel Stool is a child-led creation based on the interests of the Sky Room 3AM kids, who love using gemstones in their crafts. We connected this interest to the Times Square New Year's Eve ball drop. The children have become experts at using "just a dot" of glue, placing a gemstone on top, and then pressing down lightly to make it stick. The Sky Room kids showed off their skills by decorating the legs of the stool with their favorite jewels. On the top of the stool, the children collaged triangular pieces of metallic tissue paper to create a jewel-like effect for their "New Year's Eve Ball". The Sky Room is so proud to share its hard work and creativity with you through this collaborative art piece!
One lucky winner and a friend of their choice will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with their Sky Room teachers! It will start with pizza from Famous Famiglia followed by grocery shopping for ice cream at Key Foods. We will then return to the classroom for some crafts and a dance party! The teachers and the winning families will determine the dates for the outing. We can't wait! (One playdate for either a Sky 3AM or Sky 2AM Family)
NYC Transit Stool
By taking inspiration from the shapes, colors and lines of the subway and bus symbols, the children worked collaboratively to design this fabulous stool. It's a great accent piece to remind your child of the wonderful year they've had in the Honey Bear Room. It would look great in any NYC apartment!
I Heart NY
New York City is home - and this year, the Pandas brought that hometown pride to life on their stool. Inspired by the energy, color, and spirit of the city we love, the Pandas channeled their inner Jackson Pollock, splattering bold black, white, and red paint across the legs in a nod to the legendary New York artist's iconic drip painting style. On top, in true New York fashion, they wrote "I Love NY" and filled in the heart with a swirl of vibrant, joyful color - because when kids love something, they really love it. This stool is a little piece of the city, made with big hearts.
Join your teachers for an afternoon of ice cream and crafts! The lucky winner and a friend will have ice cream at school and then head out to the Little Shop of Crafts to create something special to take home.
A Walk In Central Park
This year, the Koalas have shown a wonderful interest in plants, especially since we welcomed our fiddle leaf plant, Gloria, at the beginning of the school year. Because our curriculum is inspired by the children's interests, we thought this would be the perfect inspiration for our auction project. We will be creating a Central Park-themed stool using beautiful shades of green and highlighting Gloria, our beloved fiddle leaf plant that has been a special part of our classroom since the start of the year.
The Koala teachers will take one lucky Koala and a friend of their choice to have ice cream in the classroom. Then, we will head over to the Little Shop Of Crafts for an exciting painting activity.
One lucky winner will invite one class friend to join the Yellow Room teachers for a special activity and ice cream treat directly after school. The playdate activity will be the winner's choice!
The Red Room's interest in bodies and doctors made our black-and-white New York theme a natural choice. Keith Haring, who often explored body movement in his work and famously painted an 88-foot-tall mural for a children's hospital, was a perfect place to begin. The children were inspired by his spirit of collaboration with Angel Ortiz, as well as how much he valued children's marks. "Draw anything! No one can tell you it's bad or good. It's yours. Haring's focus on generosity and giving back helped the Red Room feel proud to create something to share with our school community. Please enjoy these thoughtful, playful, bold, and energetic marks that will surely bring a bit of New York spirit into your home.
With the Blue Room's refined illustrations, we decided to use a timeless New York reference that would offer the opportunity to showcase each child's budding artistry. The classic Greek Deli Coffee Cup has two things the children connect with, the color BLUE and columns! It also has something they felt their parents (and teachers!) have a connection with: coffee!!! The Blue Room spent weeks designing their own Greek coffee cup with Lucia's guidance and NYC's inspiration. Using a paint carving technique for their final cup design afforded a special new opportunity, adding to the chair's refined look. The chair is personalized with a special message from the Blue Room themselves!"
One child and a friend of their choosing will visit the Children's Museum of Manhattan on 83rd Street with the Blue Room teachers directly after school. Sweet treat from Orwashers Bakery included en route to the museum! This trip will be on a date TBD by teachers and winning parents before the end of the school year!
