Anna Boothe
Frittering Away: Positive Planning with Particles
Kiln Casting
June 15 - 19, 2026 (5-day workshop)

Work small and think big in this kiln-casting workshop that focuses on using glass particulates and the lost-wax casting process to create multi-part sculptural forms. From idea to object, and all steps in between, students will learn a variety of approaches to making small cast elements with the notion of assembling them into a larger finished whole.

We will investigate methods of assembly through design and execution, (such as incorporating metal or other material parts as connectors between segments or to enable future presentation) and why one might choose to make individual elements to combine later, instead of one large piece from the get-go. To that end, students will be guided through basic to advanced kiln-casting techniques via lectures and hands-on exercises.  Explorations will include rubber and refractory mold-making, wax sprueing, frit selection, firing methods and more.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Monday through Friday, with additional studio time Monday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials for participating in the course are included.
