The Mason Dixon District of the Shenandoah Area Council of Scouting America proudly announces Lou Scally as the 2025 Distinguished Citizen Award Honorees for the Mason Dixon District.
Lou Scally truly is legendary in his profession as well as his humanitarian endeavors throughout the years. Lou got his start at radio station WHAG when he was a 17-year-old senior attending South Hagerstown High School. He had already received his FCC engineering credentials and was employed as an engineer and disc jockey at the station. He would put it on the air at dawn and work until 9 a.m. South High's guidance counselor had ok'd for him to miss "home room". He would sprint across the field to his first class when he was finished his duties at WHAG, soon after graduating, he accepted a position with WJEJ. When WHAG was awarded a license to operate a television station, he soon was on TV broadcasting the weather forecast. He has provided both personal and financial support to many fine nonprofits and charities. I am honored to call Lou a friend. This is his 56th in broadcasting. We are lucky to have him in Hagerstown.
